YEP, WE'RE GOING TO MOAB!!! :D

Dates are September 1st-3rd, which I believe is the middle of the week before Labor Day weekend. This (1) allows everyone time to get to and from the meet, while only taking one week off work, (2) makes for fewer people on the trails vs. going on a weekend, and (3) by having it later in the year, it won't be quite as hot as in June or July.

Moab is pretty central to both the midwest and the west coast, so this won't be in many people's backyard, but should be within a day or two's drive for most, at least those in the U.S. I expect to be there all week; we'll spend a couple of days in Arches and Canyonlands NP's. Moab is considered the 4x4 Mecca, and is probably the most famous 4WD area next to the Rubicon Trail in California. There are many 4x4 trails in the area (at least 30 longer ones), everything from mild to extreme, so we certainly won't run out of things to do.

I expect to use the Slickrock Campground as our base of operations for the meet. It is a bit more expensive than prior meets ($20 for tents, $32 for full hookups (30amp), and $39 for air conditioned cabins), but the Suzuki community usually stays there for the Easter Jeep Safari, and I've heard good things about them. I will be contacting the campground soon to reserve space for our group, but we may need a deposit, so I may ask for a bit more commitment from those who want to go. More info will follow, but if you are planning to go, please post up here with username, # of people in group, rigs (including tow rig), and camping facilities (cabin, tent, or RV space; if RV, what hookups would you like?) Once I get a feel for the number of people to expect, I can make the reservation.

I've seen videos/ pictures... 4x4 heaven! Thats my dad's favorite type of wheelin' I'm sure He'd love to go there. I know I would.

Its in Utah right? Anyone know how far in to Utah? I'm trying to see how how much further it would be than the Montana meet.... would an lj20v with a g13 do high way speeds with stock gearing? .... hmm Dad said the lj20 should be done at least by the time I can drive and by then I'd have my learners...

Moab is about 1,000 miles from my house, so a little farther for you. It is nearly all freeway for me; all except the last 180 miles, and even that is a pretty good highway. We're planning to take two days to get there, and 2-3 days home. On the way home from the 2005 meet we took two days, stopping in Snowville, UT. It wasn't quite halfway (about 400 miles from Moab, with 600 left to go), but we took the long way out of Moab (going east a bit), and hit some pretty bad traffic through Salt Lake City. The Golden Spike is near Snowville, between there and Salt Lake City, so we may stop there enroute.

Only $39 for an air conditioned cabin? Count me in for one of those.

I'll put you down on the list. I should point out the cabins seem to be just an air conditioned room with a couple of cots, so you'll need your own linens or sleeping bags, but there are showers and bathrooms in the campground, and showers are free if you're staying there.

I've got an email in to the campground regarding our group, so I'll let you know what I find out from them.

Yikes! You need a different tow rig! I'll be at around 13mpg, but that's with a camper on my truck, towing a trailer with two LJ's on it!

If Jimny can make this one, I'd suggest you two ride together, and haul both your LJ's behind one rig. Then at least you could split the gas cost.

Will you be staying in your parents' trailer, or be on your own?

A roof and an airconditioner is way more than I'm used to so no problem.

Well there will be a half a chance that I won't be there and the other half is that I'm not going to make it.

But everyone have fun.

Winning the lottery will not be enough at $11.45 a gallon! And it will probably go higher by then. For us int the U.S. it won't be long until the guards at the border with Mexico will be doing an about face and keeping us out and away from their better standard of living.

Any ideas on certain areas/trails? Any online maps around?

Right now I have enough plans to last 2-3 weeks, so I'm working on narrowing it down. I will try to stay as close to town as possible, since LJ10's don't like highway speeds. Everything will be subject to change, based on who is there and their rigs. We will likely stay on trails rated "5" or lower, so nothing too hardcore.

This website has pretty good descriptions of the trails:

I would like to go out to Picture Rock, just for the picture!

I mentioned this to the better half.

We may be comming but its going to depend on a lot of things, and we would be staying for a few extra days. She has the hikeing guid to Moab :-(

Its a 2-3 day drive, but that depends on how many stops we have to take, and shopping. :-)

I ordered the same book yesterday, but didn't go through Amazon.com, as all they listed was the first edition. (I figured that was why it was cheaper!)

Amazon.ca had the newer edition:

Amazon.com only listed the first edition, so I guess they lost a sale.

alright, ya'll need to start heckling my old man...... he's been talking about trying to leave me at home all day today....taking an RV that doesn't have enough beds for me, only dragging one LJ, etc. he pulls that, i'll hafta try to pull TWO trailers behind my Ranger -- an LJ and a popup -- since i AINT sleeping on the ground!
