From looking at the map, Cochrane would be closer, and has at least 4 motels: Super 8, Travelodge, Best Western, and the Bow River Inn. You're still about 7 miles from Forest Trunk Road 40, the access road into Waiparous, so I don't know if you want to drive your LJ in. You'd probably be a total of about 20 miles from where we would likely be camping, though I haven't confirmed a camping spot yet.

Was wondering of the possibility of changing the location of the Summer 2008 meet from Canada to a place more to the south of Oklahoma. This would allow us to be closer to our retirement invetments.

Steve, you are young enough to recoup, that is unless that red truck I saw at Cooke City was a diesel.
Russ, the Casino's may have less risk. At least they give me free diet cokes as a return on investment. .

Yes Larry, it's a diesel. It gets 17-18mpg empty, and I averaged about 12mpg on that trip (even with hauling the camper, and trailer with two LJ's over Beartooth Pass), but diesel is over $4.00 per gallon most places around here ($4.19 close to my house!), so Hallie may not have much of a college fund!

Is Calgary the closest?

If so I can get a ride there and be there by noon on Friday for $525.00 that's half the price the gas alone would cost me.

$100.00 more for a rental car. Not bad at all!
I'd rather be driving my LJ!

You mean 1.5 hours in an LJ? It's only about 40 miles. Mapquest give it an hour from Calgary to Waiparous, and they're usually slow, but I don't know what the speed limits are up there. It looks like Myers is staying in Cochrane, which is halfway between Calgary and Waiparous.

Are you going to fly up jimny? I'm sure one of us can pick you up in Calgary. If you prefer to rent a car, be sure to get that optional insurance coverage with it!

Jimny, picking you up at Calgary should be doable. Also getting you back to airport. We are going to make some vacation either prior to or after Canada meet. Sorry so long in replying but I have been busy with Arizona LJ and not paying attention to the web site lately.

Jimny,
As of today us old non-campers have motel reserverations in Cochrane for Friday night (4th) and Sat night and to check out Sunday (6th). We can plan to be in Calagary and pick you up on our way in Friday then stop by Cochrane so we can check into motel. Then we can bring you back to airport on our way out on Sunday. I had rather take a beating than to make reservations in an unknown spot so I will :worship: myself.....

The plane tickets only went up $100.00, that's not bad at all.

All I'm waiting for (was money but now I have that) is my Job, the new owners are planning on starting on the 1st and rumors have it that that want to have a dinner party/open house on the 5th, which makes no sense at all, I just don't see that happening, that would ruin everybody's three day weekend. But thats the Corporate World for ya!

Stevec said: Your not gonna flake ......
Now Stevec, he missed the main meet at Cooke City that had four LJs but made the "mini" meet at Disney that had seven. That should make him ahead. Anyway, the current plan is for us to pick him up a Calgary airport so he can help us find you guys. If we can't find him there we probably won't find you guys unless the Mounties help us.

Well the way work is going it looks like the only way I might make it is to fly in too, though I could probably get into somewhere a little closer than Calgary.

GMC truck problems:
You might notice that I keep using the words “we plan” when communicating about the meet in Calgary. The reason for this is we will be driving the same 2006 GMC (bought new) that blew its tranny on the way to Cooke City last year after just turning up 18,000 miles on the odometer. Since then the General Maintenance folks have rebuilt the differential, replaced the U-joints and rear pinion yoke, clamped four pounds of weight to the tail pipe, and told me the 2400 lb weigh of the LJ20 and trailer is too much for the 6700 lb. HD towing package they charged me extra for. It makes a grinding noise that General Maintenance cannot find so they now call it a “nuisance vibration” and at 38,000 miles tell me the warranty is out and to live with it. I am not trying to run down anybody's product, just trying to explain why I keep using the words "we plan” when talking about traveling with our GMC.
