Since you're digging into it anyway, I'd suggest getting a kit and rebuild both sides.

'Twas great meeting you! Thanks for giving my stepdad and I a ride on Sunday, so others could drive the LJ's!

great meeting you too, I found you stepdad's shirt in the back of my zuki, I guess he forgot it.

As for rebuilding both sides I'm verh short on shop space and I'm doing the work in my driveway :( So its goint to be one at a time.

I'm going to be looking for a few parts here first, one of the kinpin bearings has a buggered up race but is functional, I'll go down to the bearing shop and get a replacement. As for the seals I'm thinking that they may have those too, I've just got to pull them out first.

It was fairly obvious when I got the lower king pinout that there was a big problem as the grease ran out... it had enough diferential oil in it that it was fairly liquid.

any tips on pulling the seals?

found the "how to article" no worries now :D

Think I'll have to take a few pictures and start a new thread tonight in the project forum.

I just filled Wilson's gas tank.

After all the driving at the meet (7 hrs Sat, about 4 hrs Sun, and a coupla short jaunts) he used just 3.7 gallons of gas.

That is just unreal, my lawnmower uses more than that.
The above is my opinion. It is subject (like all my opinions) to debate, disagreement, rude gestures, and loud raspberries.

:))):

On Saturday, we drove over 35 miles, and at least 25 miles on the trails (in 4WD). I had filled two 5-gallon cans before leaving, and used a gallon out of one of them to fill a guys gas can at a rest area on the way, leaving a tad under 4 gallons in that can. After getting back to camp Saturday evening, I filled up the tanks on both of my LJ's. Filled them both full, and didn't use up that 4 gallons of gas. Between Saturday and Sunday, we drove over 50 miles, most of it on 4WD trails. You and Ruby went out again after we left, so you went even farther than us.

From various trips, I estimate my LJ's get 20-22mpg in low range, and about 30mpg in 2WD. The LJ81 gets about 25-26mpg when freeway driving, probably a little higher if I stay off the freeways, and probably close to 20 offroad.

My truck got about 12.5mpg for the trip, not bad for hauling a camper and a trailer with 2 LJ's on it!

I have that same problem. I always have to remind myself to just bring the camera, then remember to use it! :hammer:

Videos? I have videos? Actually I think Linda took a bit of video, but accidentally cleared her card before downloading them, because I don't ever remember seeing them.

They're short, but it should help people get excited about this years meet. Too bad I can't make it this year, I'd love to go to Moab.
