4th Annual Microcar Show - Portland OR, June 14, 2008

Post by stevec »

I had mentioned briefly last year's meet, but couldn't make it. Info for this year's meet:

http://www.mphspecialties.com/registration.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I believe this event is open to all vehicles with engine size under 1000cc. I am registered, and will be there with two rigs, probably the RHD and the V. After the show, we are probably headed over to the coast for Saturday night. Lots of old Mini's, Isetta's, Messerschmidts, and Subaru 360's, but this is the first year a Zuk will be there! :D

The person who puts this show on is the same guy I worked with on the Pertronix units. I will have some with me that day for Suzuki or Subaru owners.

Are you going to be part of the rides? You could ask them to set up a course for you...

Probably - I'll likely have the only 4WD vehicles there, but I'll see what I can find! 8)

Hope to see you there. We're going to visit Mt. St. Helens on the way home Sunday, it's been a few years since we've been there.

We had a great time at the meet, and saw deimos, jr., and Rokonbob there. No one seemed to want to ride in the LJ with me driving :? , they were more interested in the Messerschmitts and Berkeleys, so I decided to let my 10 year old drive it around on the grass in low range. Then people wanted to go for rides! I think she gave 6 or 7 rides in it, with me in the passenger side and the "rider" and my 7yo in the back seat.

Took some pictures, including a few special ones for Myers, but we got home late Sunday, so they're still on the camera.

Thanks Russ, they looked good. Children are a blessing, new looking old LJs are a small bonus.

Been busy playing single-parent for the last week and a half, and had the girls' gymnastics shows the past two evenings. I'll try to get your "special" pictures up tonight Larry. You won't find them here though...

I've been at a couple of different swap meets and things where Steve had the ljs, and it was strange being at a car show where the lj didn't stand out with its two-stroke engine and its small body, but the ljs still managed to get plenty of attention even among it's class of cars.

I had a lot of fun, even after we saw all the cars because right next to the car show was the race way and they were doing like time trials or something with the crotch rockets :cool:

I also noticed a couple of those little subaru pick-ups.... they look JUST like a carry.... :Look Around:
'92 sidekick: 16v 5 speed 4 door. '72 lj20: frame and tub..

Almost... Except they are a bit smaller, and are rear engined, rather than mid engined. :wink:

There was only one Subaru pickup, and it was in a trailer most of the day. You probably saw the Honda Acty. That guy also had an early '90's Carry in his trailer, with 4x4 and Difflock. He was selling them for offroad use, as they weren't street legal.

I did download the pics to my computer at home, just need to resize them and post them, but I've been so busy getting ready for the meet, I haven't had the time.
