Re: Zuks of KC - Moab, 2013

Mrs. Tweedy and her husband Phil stopped by yesterday afternoon and visited with us for a few hours. It was great to see them and we appreciate them taking the time to stop by Oklahoma on their way to MOAB. Phil even let me drive his latest creation. Glad there is not much brush at MOAB as his creat...

Re: Zuks of KC - Moab, 2013

We have kept putting the decision off but just a moment ago we finally decided not to try and make the Zuks of KC get-to-gather at Moab. Sure would be fun to do it again. We now know there are better hotels there and the weather should be perfect but I really just do not feel like it. Maybe there wi...

Re: Zuks of KC - Moab, 2013

The Myers two are a probably. Finally got to the brain and spine specialist Doc in Tulsa who said to avoid his knife as long as I can with the bones, or rather the lack of space between the bones. However, he kept any info he had on the gray matter to himself. At least I seem to remember he did not ...

An LJ with Oblivious Inspiration

In anticipation of driving “Miss Alice” inside Yellowstone National Park after the 2007 Meet in Cooke City, MT, I had a sign made which I installed on the spare tire. (see pic below) This was done in an attempt to lessen the common question “Why does that thing smoke so much?” Since then, have had n...

Re: Door knockers

While driving Miss Arizona (lJ20 Van) down the highway recently a man in a large pickup honked me down. I mean he kept honkng like my vehicle was on fire. Finally I pulled onto a side road and stopped and he pulled up beside me yelling past his wife who had rolled her window down "What is that ...

Re: Replacement body-frame mount cushions

I've spent a good while searching for replacements for the rubber-fiber pads that sit between the frame and body ("body mounts", "frame cushions", "body bushings"), but to no avail. IMG_0199.JPG (2 documents, 8 total pages).jpg Does anyone have a source for those? Stev...

Great show. Also easy to enjoy the green stuff after a local snow storm. The fun you were having shows up as two stroke smoke in your pictures.
thanks

Re: Alternative shifters

Someone on the forums described the LJ shifting as being vague, which is about as accurate description as I have heard. This results in the driver’s frustration being taken out on.....what else? ....the shifter..... which soon makes matters only worse. When I first got Miss Alice, the shifter had so...

Re: Met Someone who Sold LJ's New

Anyway a man came up to me and said it had been a long time to see one but he used to be a salesman at a dealership (Datsun) in Arkansas that sold LJ's.McKFam Find that neat McKFam as the Datsun dealer in Ponca City, OK is the one who sold the LJs locally. I also ran into a mechanic who worked ther...

Re: Parts cleaning

I used to clean bearings and shoot them with compressed air and never thought it was dangerous. My friend was cleaning a SJ413 front wheel bearing for me and used the air and the bearing failed when it was spinning. Blew apart in his hands and he was lucky he didn't get hurt. When I was a kid worki...

Re: The connection between Twinkies and my first LJ

Never been to California so can’t say Russ. Do know the population of the one in OK has been on the decline, dropping 9% from 2000 to 2010. While one more wrecked vehicle may not be noticed, with the 2010 population of 141 it would sure be hard to hide a barn full of Twinkies from the coons, bobcats...

Re: The connection between Twinkies and my first LJ

I didn't know there was a Burbank in Oklahoma, but the warehouse I am referring to is in California. I could tell you exactly where, but then I'd have to kill you. So, in addition to having the same name, it looks like the two Burbanks are kind of the same in other ways. I don't know if Burb...

Re: The connection between Twinkies and my first LJ

Steve, that is regretful, To think of the many, many times I have craved a Twinkie and only now find out they were stored at Burbank all of these years. Burbank is just 15 miles by road from Kaw City OK and even closer if I walk. When you get time, please do a Google Earth on Burbank and tell me jus...

Re: The connection between Twinkies and my first LJ

Cool story, Larry. Guess you could have called the LJ "Twinkie" with some justification. I remember when we were in Disney and Russ's LJ was broke on the river bed past lunch time. I was hungry and complaining about it in a loud shrill voice. Your wife, Winnie, took pity on me and gave me...

The connection between Twinkies and my first LJ

The connection between Twinkies and my first LJ. In March of 1947, Dad started working for a rather large farm/ranch operation. Our neighbors owned another rather large farm/ranch operation. They lived about ¾ mile away. Their names were Glen, his wife Alice and their son Arlin who was already in th...

Huh. It just so happens that ZuksOfKC has been in the planning stages of a trip to Moab around the last of Sept/early Oct of 2013. We just could make it a combo ZOKC/LJ10 meet. We got 5 Samurai's sorta commited. And we're looking at a full week there. Whaddaya'll think? Caveat #1: I'll have my Samu...

Re: LED replacement taillights

One of my Grandsons and I got balanced in Miss Alice once. Were on a ATV trail across the lake and decided to go cross ways to the very deep trails made by the ATV. After getting high-centered, we got out to push it and it balanced itself, front and rear wheels off of the ground. He laughed when he ...
