How many more days....

Less than 4 weeks to go...
That pesky charging problem is back in the V... Battery stayed charged all winter, then drained in less than a week. Tested with a voltmeter and the Service Manual, and it looks like the voltage regulator could be the culprit. I still have to finish putting the door back together, so I may just slap a new regulator on and see if it fixes the problem.
Haven't taken the LJ10 out much at all this year (once!) so I hope it is okay!

Well, I put on a new regulator, and the charge light doesn't come on at weird times anymore, so I think that fixes that. All the "adjustables" seem to be ok, so I think it must have a short somewhere in there. Also got the door back together, so it's ready to go. I'm taking tomororw off work to get a bunch of errands done, and take delivery on a new mattress (gotta love free shipping!), so I'll drive the V around and make sure all is well.

Well, all is not well with the V... It runs fine in the driveway, and will rev up to 6K without any problems at all, but when I drive it, and the engine is under load, it tries to stall out. It's blowing bits of carbon out the tailpipe, so I pulled the back half of the exhaust off. Pretty easy, since all but one of the mounts were broken. The muffler does rattle a lot, so it's probably at least partially blocked. I'm going to pull the expansion chamber when I have time and check it too, and put all new mounts on, but the V may not show up for the NW Meet. The LJ10 is running great, as is the LJ81, so I'll still have two rigs there.

I've changed my mind about driving my LJ80 down, so it's getting a trailer ride instead. I wasn't really liking the idea of 7hrs of wind and sun/rain. Not much fun being wind burnt and baked/soaked when you arrive some where.
On a good note, the new ring and pinions and rear locker are going in this week and it's getting new brakes too!

LJ80s, I can't collect them all, but I might still try...
It's hard to tell without seeing/driving it. Yer dad is going to try my spare carb and see if it makes a difference. Even if it doesn't, bring it to the meet, and we'll work on it there. I'm heading up Thursday night, and we may have time on Friday while people are showing up.deimos_jr wrote:Hey steve, do you think a clogged expantion chamber would cause symptoms like my dad's lj10? If so will that be an easy unclogging?

Since we're on the topic of alcohol consumption, I'd like to address a point. We addressed this last year, but I'd like to bring it up again before everyone gets to the meet.
I have no problem with drinking alcohol at camp, and will likely be consuming my fair share at the meet this year, but I have no tolerance for people drinking on the trail, or going out wheeling after having a few. This includes popping a cold beer while we're stopped on the trail. I am asking that people please save the brew for camp. As for drunk driving, I'm sure we won't have a problem, but if anyone needs convincing, be sure to check out Crystal Mtn. Lookout with us. A Jeep Cherokee went over the edge last year, killing everyone inside. (It is at least 1000' drop!) If you look over the edge, you can still see the remains of a couple of trees that tried to slow the vehicle down before going off the cliff. I realize that this is just an informal get-together, and thus I can't make any rules to follow, but I want my opinion out there before anyone leaves.

Great! Now that we have that issue resolved, something a little lighter: What day is everyone leaving for the meet, and when do you expect to arrive? There is no cell phone service in the campground; only up at the mountaintops, but I will have a CB on, tuned to channel 21.
Looks like it'll be sunny all weekend, so bikini tops are optional!

You shouldn't need a raincoat this weekend. And if you want to wear a bikini top, it's fine with me! (Heck, last year Jeff wore a skirt at the meet... okay, it was a kilt!)Rick Friesen wrote:Bikini tops are optional? Dang, that's all I run rain or shine! (good thing I have a rain coat though!)
