I need to give some well earned praise, here.

SuzukiTom was our trail leader, since he'd been to Moab many times over the years and was very knowledgeable about the trails and conditions. He took his responsibility very seriously and did an excellent job. His wife said that leading our group of individuals was "like herding cats"!

I'd follow that rascal anywhere, anytime.

Thanks, bud.

For the record, we had ten LJ's (five LJ10's and five LJ20's) and one Samurai at the meet this year:

Myself, the wife, and kids with two LJ10's
Mom and Stephen with their LJ20
Smuz and Alice, with Wasp and Michelle, and two LJ10's
Myers and Winnie with their LJ20
Tweedy Bird and Edie with their LJ20
SuzukiTom and Nancy with their LJ20
lj20colorado and his dad Phil with two LJ20's
And Phoenix and his wife with his son's Samurai

We ran the Arches trails on Monday, Fins N Things on Tuesday, Sevenmile Rim on Wednesday, and Poison Spider Mesa on Thursday (My family wanted to spend the day in Arches Thursday, so I skipped that one.) Potluck Wednesday night was great, and as usual, we had tons of food left over! My only "carnage" for the week was the bumper falling off the orange LJ10 Monday, and then losing a cylinder on Wednesday (which left us short a seat; another reason why we didn't go out Thursday.) Friday, most people had left, so we toured Canyonlands, while SuzukiTom and wife when rockhounding. After seeing the views, I put White Rim Road on my "must do" list! Also, the Fiery Furnace hike we did in Arches Thursday was the best part of that park; I have more pictures to load up, but no more LJ pictures, just scenery from the national parks.

I must say, the LJ's were awesome! These weren't extreme trails (rated 4 and 5 out of 10), but the stock LJ's had no problem running them, and we even did some of the "optional" obstacles. My RHD with the Pertronix installed really showed off on the highway, quickly pulling away from the other LJ's, and it helped on that optional hillclimb on Fins N Things. I was disappointed when the orange one lost a cylinder, but was impressed that it only needed to be pulled up two hills at the end of Fins N Things, and was able to drive back to camp on one cylinder.

Thanks again to everyone who came and made this one of the best meets yet!!!!!

BTW, I checked the compression on the orange LJ10 this morning... Cylinder #1 was 100 psi - not great, but better than #2, which was only 40 psi, so it is definitely going to get a teardown this winter!

A repeat picture of what Wasp posted but this was a very impressive spot to see and well worth the up and down climb. The vehicle is the very small dot in the lower left corner of the parking lot.

I thought Red Rock 4-Wheelers rated it a 5.

That parking lot is the trailhead for the Moab Rim Trail, on the other side of the Colorado River. Another fun run where the first section is a off-camber, ledgy climb up from the river, that's guaranteed to pucker your arse  . After that, the trail merely gets difficult :D

The Redrock 4-Wheelers difficulty scale is only from 1 to 5. But the Poison Spider trail, like all the rest they rate, is rated for the most difficult obstacle, which may or may not have a bypass. I would have to say, that for the most part, the Poison Spider Mesa trail is worth an average rating of 3.5 when all the easy lines are taken.

good to know. as opposed to our trails 'round here which are rated such that "you cannot complete this trail without this, this, this, and this." like if we specify dual lockers, you'd dang sure better have a pair of em.

the bypasses are where it gets hard

Some great pictures there Myers!

It's too bad I couldn't make it this year, I really wanted to wheel Moab! Maybe some year we can plan to do the Rubicon as I haven't done that yet either.

Good to see everyone had a great time!

Oops, my bad...how things change when I'm not paying attention  I've just learned that the RR4W has recently (1998?) changed their trail rating scale, from 1 - 5 to 1 - 10. So the trails we did, Fins & Things, Sevenmile Rim and Poison Spider are all middle range difficulty trails.

The only ratings I am closely familiar with are in my under shorts. They had the first part of Poison Spider rated about as high as I need to try.
BUT, it sure was fun.

We did buy two National Geographic Maps for North and South Moab and their rating for _eep trails runs from 2.5 to 5. They gave Poison Spider a 4 which is about where my under shorts had it.

Thanks again to Tom.
