Nah, Jr. has been away for a week so he'll be reconnecting with all the chicks he met at the parade. A week is a long time with those teen age testesterone levels :)

I got back yesterday afternoon. Got some pics of the meet, but will only share them with those who ACTUALLY SHOWED UP!!!!!!

Just kidding, I'll try to load them off the camera tonight if I have time. With everyone wither cancelling at the last minute, or breaking down on the way, it was a pretty small meet. Only 4 rigs made it: My two, Deimos', and Myers. My mom and stepdad were also there with their motorhome, and they left wanting to buy an LJ. The biggest problem is my stepdad is 6' 5", so he can sit in them with stock seats, so he wants one that is totally stock, but without seats.

Here's a (not so) quick synopsis of the meet:

As expected, we stayed at Red Lodge Thursday night, and drove over Beartooth Pass Friday morning. Fried the trailer brakes coming down into Cooke City, but the truck brakes held up fine, and the trailer brakes were fine once they cooled down. Pulled into Cooke City about 12:15, had lunch, and went to the general store to buy a topo map of the area.

Talked to the FS ranger a couple of times, and he suggested a couple of places to camp, but the good places were taken already, and I don't think my stepdad would want to take his motorhome up that road anyway, so we stayed at Soda Butte CG, which had just opened for the season. $9 per night, but they had plenty of water pumps, toilets, and bear lockers for those tent camping. (There are a lot of Grizzly Bears in the area, so you're required to lock up your food at night).

The LJ's ran like cr@p when we got there, due to the altitude, but ran a little better once I advanced the timing on them. With the thin air up at 8-10,000' elevation, I never needed to use the choke to start them! Mom & stepdad showed up at about 5:00pm (they had to get 4 new motorhome tires on the way). No one else there yet, and the Myers had not checked into their cabin, so we headed back to camp, had dinner and a campfire, and went to bed. Saturday morning, still didn't see anyone until Deimos and Jr. showed up. They arrived at about 2am, pulled into a campsite, and went to sleep in their Jeep (tow rig). Shortly thereafter, Larry Myers and his wife, Winnie, showed up in their LJ20, which ran much better at altitude than the LJ10's.

Deimos' LJ10 wasn't running well, so they stayed at camp, while the other three rigs headed up to Daisy Pass at about 10:30; myself and my 9yo in the RHD, My mom driving the orange LJ10 with wife as passenger, and the Myers in their LJ20. The road wasn't bad, but the altitude sucked a lot of the power out of the LJ's, so we needed the low range gearing to get up to the top. The RHD sputtered a lot, and stalled a few times, but we made it to the pass, where we found a big snowbank blocking the road, but awesome views. We probably could've pushed our way through it eventually, and the road was clear from there all the way to Lake Abundance, but it was near noon, and we planned to be back in camp for lunch, so we took some pics and headed back down. After lunch, we headed up Lulu Pass, hoping to not hit snow. Deimos and Jr. had problems and couldn't even get up the highway, so they turned around and headed back to camp, and it was just us and the Myers. There were a lot of old abandoned mining buildings, so we stopped a lot to explore. No problems at all with the RHD until we got near the top, when we had a vapor lock issue. We put a little more gas in the tank, turned it around to get the fuel pump pumping, then headed up the rest of the way. Hit another snowbank within view of the pass, and this one was pretty off-camber, so we walked over it, and took pics from the pass. Then we headed back down for the potluck of Copper River salmon, New York steaks, dirty rice, and all the fixins.

Deimos and Jr. had to leave pretty early Sunday morning, the Myers stopped by on their way out later in the morning, and then we headed into Yellowstone. I did get a chance to inspect the trailer that Larry built for his LJ - that is a work of art!!! Larry, you gotta put up some specs and pictures on that trailer! I think I took some pictures of it, I'll look on the camera.

Monday we were in the Mammoth area of Yellowstone, and based on the note on my windshield, apparently the Myers had passed through at the same time, but we never saw them. We spent the rest of the week in Yellowstone, left late Saturday morning, and arrived home Sunday afternoon.
