Breakdowns and other troubles going to the meet...
Well, there I was rushing all over the place trying to get going on the road to get to the meet, I was trying to leave in the morning on Wednesday but didn't get out until afternoon and everything was going fine until I got on the other side of Tulsa, Oklahoma... for quite a few miles I felt a slight vibration in the gas pedal and the floorboard but didn't pay any attention to it until it was too late, I didn't hear it because I was jamming music to loud, until the vibration got louder and said 'HEY listen to me' and so I let off the gas a little bit and turned down my music and at that time it became a banging noise and then it quit making the noise at the exact same time the rear tires locked up on the highway and I pushed in the clutch and coasted to the side of the road, my engine spun a bearing!!!
I called my boss and told him what happened and he said he would come get me in the wrecker but not till Thursday, so I slept in my truck over night. I got back home late last (Thursday) night.

I had cleaned out my truck very well before I left because I thought that I might have a couple passengers and towing a nice new trailer with an LJ...
The day before, Larry "Meyers" was heading toward the meet and his transmission went out on him in Kansas, lucky for him his truck was still under warranty, so emergency road side assistance sent a wrecker to pick him up and he has a new transmission in his truck, at least they should have it in by now, they had to wait till the next morning (Thursday) to get one.
Larry and his wife will be there at the meet but I am out of the game. Time to get me a newer truck.

Mee too, I'm looking at Tundra's now. not new but 2001-02 ish. Need a tow rig anyway. I'm tired of my daily driver needing so much attention.tweeder wrote:well, damn. looks like ALL the local guys had some piss poor luck getting to the meet.

Me having to go through this vehicle inspection with my 413K has sucked big time. First I thought it would be no issue but then having to track down parts and fixing all the "little" things has been really annoying. Every tiny detail has to be perfect. Right now I can't even legally drive it because I'm past my 30 day period and I'm waiting for a new e brake cable to arrive from Toronto.tweeder wrote:my poor BroncoII needs more work than it's worth....... just to get it safe and reliableRuby wrote:I'm tired of my daily driver needing so much attention.

Jeez Jimny that is a big time bummer. Nice boss. One of the things I was looking forward to at this meet was to meet some more of the big posters such as yourself and Sluggo. I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Hey Ruby what are you doing posting, I thought you were going to Montana ?

If it's black I've seen it, has pro comp tires. Nice but its a 2000 so it only has the third door instead of four. Price is OK but there are better deals around.nick wrote:I know of a nice one for sale in Kamloops right now.Ruby wrote:Mee too, I'm looking at Tundra's now. not new but 2001-02 ish. official verdict = the bolt that holds the starter/generator to the crank was missing -- never reinstalled during the last rebuild -- so the starter just shook off
but it now needs seat covers in a bad way....... dad got home and there was DUCT TAPE holding the driver's side cover on

A legend in my own mind.
We had a trailer tire come REALLY close to exploding in Butte Montana, it was bouncing all over the place so we stoped to look at it and the tire was off the bead or something and it was bulging and disfigured. So we put the spare on and limped to a leshwab. Then we finally got to the camp area at 2:00 am and slept in the jeep which wouldn't have been so bad if the jeep wasn't full of stuff.
The next morning we took the lj over to where Steve was camped and the lj was running a little ruff because the elevation was messing up the timing and one of the oil lines wasn't getting oil so we stayed at camp for the morning run and messed with the timing (which made it worse) and went to town to get some oil to run pre mix. The lj was still running bad so we messed with the timing again which made it even worse. Later, we went on the afternoon run and as we were heading up the hill (in first gear cause it was running terribly) all of the sudden it lost ALL power and died. we got it started again and it was now running like it was on only one piston and had a fowled plug.
So the lj was out of comision for 7/8 of the trip.

You need to get out west a bit more. They're great. Lots of them too, you'll be driving down a twisting track 20 miles out of Hicksville and come around a corner and there you'll discover a little hamlet not even on the map. There will be a general store with a couple of old geezers sucking grass stalks on the verandah, a small old delapitated tavern, a few small shacks and tumbleweeds blowing down mainstreet. Then you'll notice on the far outskirts of town a Les Schwabs, with 24 bays, paved lot and a couple of dozen tire techs in their white shirts ready to "come running". They'll have tires for big rigs, to wheel barrows, sodium filled tractor tires to aircraft tires and everything in between.Jimny wrote:Never heard of them.

Altitude sickness hit the wife at Laramie, wy. on the way, first thaught it was car sick but the higher we went the worse it got.spent night 3 in Grand teton Pk. still sick. Yellow Stone next day worse yetless than 75 miles drive that day.next morning still worse, passes out bounces on floor Time to get to lower altitude. Check maps find thae out through east entrance will get us down the quickest so we tuck our tails and run By the time we get to Cody, wy. she is feeling better She slept her way accross the Big Horn Mt. Spent the night in Spearfish, Sd.feeling good now. Decide to spend time in the Black hills & Bad lands. Almost forgot LJ quit in Yellowstone loud noise under hood then quit, would not restart, starter loose on crank shaft. When we got home I tore it down and found Po had left of the 10x1.5 bolt that holds the generator to the crank no major damage
