Getting ready for the 2007 Meet
Thought I'd put this up, so people can update us all on progress to get ready for the 2007 meet.
As for me, I don't think I'm going to do anything on the LHD LJ10, as it's never given me a problem in the 7 years I've had it (other than the 2005 meet!)
I do plan to redo the front brakes on the RHD before the meet, and I still need to drain/refill the gear oils. Got the speedo working good, so the only thing that doesn't work is the gas gauge. I think I have an extra sending unit, so I'll try that and see if it works. I may have jimny make some seatcovers for it, if he has the time, though I'd rather see him make up some tops before the meet! I'll also replace the big turn signal and brake lights with OEM style assemblies, but nothing that'll take long.
I'm kinda nervous about pulling the trailer out though. It sat submerged for a day and a half during the flood last fall, so it may need new bearings. but hey, I still got time!

Toyzuki is getting a fresh 22re which means figuring out a whole bunch of wiring in order to get the computer working. It also has some steering issues right now but if it's getting a ride on a trailer all the way there and back then we might not worry about that.

Well from the sounds of things everyone should be there without a hitch!! Come on people, I know this isn't the truth, maybe it's that you are all so busy working that you don't have time to inform the rest of us so we can laugh at you. Ah well, guess we'll find out.

If I can ever get started on the body work of Ole Yeller then I could have it ready by then. But now I have two LJ20 engines to rebuild, 3 carbs, 3 more sets of seats... I might be just bringing Ranger. Even though my trailer can haul 2 LJ's. If Smuz is going I could haul one of his.
I'd rather be driving my LJ!
one step closer to having the Super Duty ready for the drive... will have pix tomorrow (done, now i gotta get pix)
still needed --
finish sliders (boy, are these gonna be PIMP )
bumper/grille guard
find some high-altitude jets (CHECK)
install toolbox on the trailer
modify tiedowns on the trailer
heck, might even straighten the fender on the trailer if there's time left
and there MIGHT be something "special" brewing for the Super Duty......(done, gotta get teh pix)

Well, my little orange Lj is running great. It does need four new u-joints, but... I may not get around to changing them before the meet because they aren't too bad yet.
I'm a little skeptical on the Toyzuki being ready, but you never know, sleep isn't really that important is it?

LJ80s, I can't collect them all, but I might still try...
My update: repacked the trailer bearings and used it to haul the Samurai and the RHD to Liberty for the holiday weekend. No problems there.
RHD: Points cr@pped out at Liberty. Was running great, then all of a sudden it stopped. After a quick inspection, I found a chunk on the spring side had come off and welded itself to the adjusting side. A couple of minutes with a file and it was running again, but it will get new points and condenser before the meet. Still need to redo lights - one of the rear "boat lights" has a short, everytime I adjust the bulb it comes on but then the fuse blows. Putting the OEM's on anyway, so I'm not worried about it. Still need to rewire another front though.
Haven't touched the front brakes yet. They were fine at Liberty, but I'll still put new seals in.

If anyone needs parts, I can bring them to the meet, but let me know soon in case I need to order something. I usually bring a box of the more common parts, but that's it.
I better get on the t-shirts and plaques too, I guess...

Got an idea or two, but no design finished. Ordered the dash plaques yesterday, and should get them next week. I'll probably try to bust out a t-shirt design this weekend. If anyone wants to take a crack at one, you're more than welcome.

I could probably help you with one.stevec wrote:Got an idea or two, but no design finished. Ordered the dash plaques yesterday, and should get them next week. I'll probably try to bust out a t-shirt design this weekend. If anyone wants to take a crack at one, you're more than welcome.
It is what I do at work (to a degree. My job is more a developer).
I work at a marketing and ad agency.
Let me know your specs.
Or maybe I will just come up with some ideas and post them.
Cheers,
Nick
Still waiting for the right zuk to come along.

Hey Steve,
Kinda a rough concept of what I was thinking.
Let me know what you think. I have some other ideas as well.
Still not 100% done. But is a rough draft.
I think instead of the texture on the LJ, I should have the same texture as the text. But I thought I would run it by you before I spent any more time. I know its alot different than the first two years.
I also think black shirts are good (they don't show stains as easy).
Cheers,
Nick

I agree with not going with white again... We did white shirts the last two years, and while they look nice new, they do show stains. I was thinking of ash color (grey); we've used it for my Suzuki club and they hold up well. I'm also going to try a different person than last year, as I don't think the quality was as good as the 2005 shirts.

I agree. The LJ80 looks just like the one on the main page, which we used on the 2005 shirts. I was thinking of doing something a little more creative, with maybe a representation of Yellowstone since we're so close (i.e. Old Faithful in the background). Colors are nice too (though I'd want to keep it at 3 or less colors, to keep setup costs down.)nick wrote:I don't think it would work well on a grey shirt.
You would need to go to a black ink, and I would think the design would loose some of the impact.

Looks good nick.
Be cool to put just an LJ on the back of the shirts, (in addition to the front) I don't know what more that would ad to the cost of the shirts though.

Here's my short list of things that need to be done before the meet:
Need to get the wood put on my trailer so I can haul my LJ's
Need to get back to work on Dakota so that maybe it will be ready in time for the meet.
Need to make at least two sets of tops.
Need to do a couple more sets of seats with foam. The problem is that I am having a hard time finding the right foam.
*Next Day* Reality sat in last night, there is NO WAY I will have Dakota ready for the meet, so (this will make Steve happy) I will work on tops and seats till then. I can flat tow Ranger to the meet.
