The NW meet is barely in the books, the Midwest meet hasn't even happened yet, but it's time to start thinking about next year's meet(s), and where we want to go...

Post any ideas or suggestions here, and we'll figure out what works best for as many people as possible, and go from there!

I was thinking maybe Oregon or Washington or Idaho.

I AIN"T going 1900 miles again next year. It ain't happening. Don't ask me.

This year I drove 7 full freaking days for 1 day's wheeling. (I juss got home).

What made it worth it was meeting alla you great people. I hadda great time. I loved meeting everybody. (except mebbe that little runt, Kyler, who I wuz especially nice to, and then he diss's me).

i think we should have only one meet per year and we should have it central located. find out where every one is that wonts to go and point out a good area.
or
swap every other year one in the west than one in the east or one in the north and one in the south.

but i thin moab might be a good for the 2007 meet because its like the holy grail of 4 wheeling

07 MIGHT be a little early for my pilgrimage to Moab......my truggy won't be finished by then, i'm thinking.

Las Cruces is nice. Lot's of challenges...

We (Smuz, Stevec and I) talked about where a good place would be for the the 2007 meet. We decided to do just one meet again but try and have it where everyone could make it.

We will debate some more and maybe soon have a place picked!

We actually had a lot of discussion about having it in Canada. Both Smuz and I mentioned somewhere in the mountains up towards Jasper, as that whole area from Banff north is beautiful. Any places up there that would be good for a meet? It's have to be a place where people could bring a stock LJ and have fun; bonus if there is a play area for modified rigs. Probably the farther south the better, so it's closer for all of us coming from south of the border.

Thanks Ruby, I was actually going to PM you, but just post ideas here, and maybe other Canucks can too!

My wish list for 2007 meet:

1. Meet should be in June or July, as that is when most people are available (esp. those of us with kids!).

2. Should be a place that isn't 102* with 60% humidity for the meet. (I don't need to do that again! )

3. Should have trails that stock rigs can go on, without much risk of body damage. Trails for modified rigs are a plus.

4. Should be fairly easy to get to, for those of us coming from far away. Driving a half hour up a dirt road to get to the meet is fine, as long as it's freeway/highway most of the way, for those of us coming from hundreds or thousands of miles away. This will make it easier for more people to come, both from Canada and the U.S.

We also talked about the Idaho panhandle, or Montana, as I'm sure there are a lot of areas to have a meet. Actually Smuz brought this one up, which surprised me since it's a lot closer for me than for him or Jimny. We can ask Idahopaul, and I may ask Figmo at Roadless Gear for ideas too.

I agree. These LJ meets are more of a social occasion than a hard core wheeling event. Hard wheeling, for those that want it, is nice, but I believe the main focus for these events should be mostly 4WD trail rides with lots of scenery.

By then I will have mine restored and it will be just on trail rides not courses.

Scenery is not a problem up here, just making a descision on exactly where. I'll keep looking around and coming up with possible ideas.

Cool! There are so many places up there, that I wouldn't even know where to start. Like Steve said, close to the border and close to the center of the US.

We want to try and get EVERYBODY that has a running L to go to this one.

I doubt my 81 will be even done by then but I may have an 80V as backup.

Keep in mind once you get into central Alberta and East, it's all flat with some rolling hills. Not much to look at. Steve had mentioned Banff/Jasper area. Only thing is around there is alot of provincial and federal parks so off roading would likely be a no-no. Possible in some areas. We've got lots of time so I'll keep working on it.

Another thought is Montana - like Washington, it's not too far for the Canadians to come down, but closer for the midwesterners to come up...

yes, we can. i'd love to go to Montana! where to wheel there? i'll find out about North Dakota wheeling -- just for kicks and giggles. one of my buddies is from there.

I'll see what I can find on places in Montana. We haven't brought up the subject of sand yet either... Anyone up for a beach run?

I like sand, but not by itself. I like the kind with a lake attached!

I was actually thinking of more like an ocean, say the Pacific. The light weight of the LJ makes it perfect for sand, but it would be a bit of a drive for most people.

it sure would! i dont even know if my little truck can make the mountain passes between here and there towin the Zuk (dad would be draggin the 5th wheel). i'm still thinkin upper midwest....
