Whipsaw 2010

Seems as though there should be more than a few of us interested in doing Whipsaw (near Princeton, BC) this summer. Let's start looking at dates that works. It will be a two day run for sure, camping out somewhere on the trail.

Sounds like fun!
I'd sugest we go before it gets too hot out as I don't know anyone around here that has A/C in their LJ. However, the only time that doesn't work for me is August as I'm already quite busy that month.
Anyone know how early we can get in there and not get burried in snow or mud?

Can I bring my new diesel sammi? Sold the sammi I was driving last summer, and have my diesel rig up and running. Just working out a few bugs at this point. Probably still won't have an LJ running by then but who knows hey! Going to try and ad a pic of my newest suzi to make some of you jealous. Norm

Ya for sure, you are still part of the "club" :D Hey an 81, what's the story?

Been trying to get this one for about 6 years now. the guy swore he would never sell it. But no work and right after christmas he changed his mind. Not too pretty up close. Rusted out above the windshield and alotof the top is rusted out. Ever seen anything like that? Supposed to run but haven't tried yet. Have a few ideas kicking around in my head yet. Norm

I bet you do!

I'm sure you could have the LJ80Q ready for a trail run without a crazy amount of work, but the diesel Sami would be cool too.

I'm definitely interested. I'm about 6 hours away, so I would probably make it a three-day weekend: One day to get up there (and maybe start the trail), the second on the trail, and the third to drive home (and/or finish the trail, if need be.) I'm flexible, and can work with whatever you want to do, and then just add a day of travel time for myself however it fits best. If you want to leave on a Saturday morning, I can drive up there Friday afternoon, camp somewhere close by, and we could do the trail Saturday and Sunday. I would just have to give myself enough time to get home Sunday evening.

I've got the LJ Meet in South Dakota the last week of June, coming home July 3-4, and then taking the LJ's down to Oregon the weekend of July 17/18. I could make it the weekend of the 10th, or just about any weekend afterwards through August. I also have most of June open, before the 26th. The kids will still be in school, but it'd probably just be me going up anyway.

Is this an "LJ only" run, or can other Zuk drivers come too? I know a couple of guys in my local club (Wazuks) will be interested.

Not an LJ only meet, I'd say open to other zukes as well.

honestly i just moved into princeton 5 months ago, i have been dirt biking around here and tons of hunting/fishing for years so i know the back roads pretty well but i have never been up whipsaw, i was going to run it in my long travel buggy but i split my fuel cell and never made the trip.. it would be all new to me, think the Sj axles will hold up? i have yet to break one but i have only put 200K on it

I want to do this trip. If we want to beat the heat we'd have to go early, maybe May long weekend (here in bc anyway) but we may still hit a fair bit of snow. I should be able to do anything in July or early August. Lets try to avoid the long weekends in the summer if we can. I'm guessing it could get pretty busy up there on the long weekends.

May long is much too early, even up to mid June is hit and miss for snow conditions. Maybe the June 19 weekend, or the July 10 weekend? The July one may be better due to mud and/or snow.

Either weekend will be fine for me. I'm planning on driving the LJ81 up; will try to repaint the camper shell before then.

July 10 weekend would work better for me. I will already be in the area by then. That will save me a trip off the island (150 bucks) and I won't have to race back for school.

Hi all

Its been a while. Sounds like a fun trip, but unfortunately I will be in India from the 26th of June to sometime late July. Anyways, here is the whipsaw map I made last year. Enjoy!!

That map is great!

I have 2-3 rigs from my local club interested; none have fully committed yet. We'd like to drive up Friday (July 9) afternoon and camp somewhere near the start of the trail, then meet everyone else Saturday morning if that works. Is there a good spot to camp there? Is that area open to dispersed (random) camping?

You think I need to have the locker in my LJ81, or can the trail be done without it? I have a little exhaust work to do, and need to paint the canopy; otherwise the LJ81 is ready to go.

from what I have heard you should be fine in a stock 4x4. There may be the odd spot where you end up on a rope but nothing too crazy. I was going to bring my stock sidekick and hope for the best but now I'm not sure I will be able to make it. I won't know until closer to game time so I will keep you boys posted on that.

Glen.

You'll be fine unlocked. Most of the tough stuff on the trail is optional. There are really only 3 spots where you really have to work to get a stock vehicle through. You will want to have a winch in the crowd as there is one mud pit that is not optional, and it has a sharp bank on the exit that can give people trouble. However, if you are creative you could probably suffice with a come-a-long.

I forgot to add lodestone lake is a great camping spot. It has plenty of spots where you can spread out and camp, but it can fill up fast on the weekends. There are plenty of places along the way to stop, but you probably want to try and stay near the ends of the trails as it can be pretty buggy up top.

Thanks for the info Grant. Are your parents thinking of coming out even if you can't? I'm trying to get some people from Cranbrook to come along.
