Carnage.....

As everybody that was at the meet knows, my sons and I brought 5 vehicles to the meet. Only one escaped without damage or mechanical problems. The score is:

Wilson: performed flawlessly and returned home trumphant.

Mouser: broke both front axles (expected) and shelled out the rear diff (big suprise)

Sleepy: developed coolant leak (hole in bypass hose)

Whacker: Bent the front trakbar badly (fixed by local 4x4 shop for cheap) and popped a tack weld on rear spring (fixed on site by drunken weldor)

Sancho: Left front brake cylider blew out on a hill, causing him to roll backwards down the hill very fast until he found the only tree on the hill. Now he needs a new back window and the rear door beat back straight.

Xena: The poor dear picked the last trip home to grind thru the pad on the right front brake. Now it needs a rotor in addition to new pads.

Anybody else? (Jimny, damage to Ranger don't count, cause we can't tell. hehehe)

Well the Sami got it's tires sliced on the right side on the same rock, then another tire had a flat later in the day. Only body damage it had was when we used the Rail Road jack to lift the body up to change the wheels and now my right door won't shut. I like it better with the doors off anyway so no problem there.

Other then that I was pretty lucky.

dad slightly tweaked a rocker. hard to tell for all the rust. definately gonna put a set of sliders on, tho.

Well Mouser's back on his feet and mobile. Had to fix him enough to get him off the trailer and be able to move him around. That rear diff was a MESS! I got pics and an explanation a little later tonight. You guys ain't gonna believe what happened in there. I never saw nuffin like it.

And here is the broke diff. I never seen one break the carrier mounts before.

How hard did you hammer that throttle, Steve?

Pulled the pinion shaft and put the whole mess in the housing that had the broke pinion from before. Ain't gonna work good, but it'll let him move on his own. I didn't even bother to put oil in it.

That's why it sounded like it was skipping teeth, everybody keep saying that it broke off a tooth or two but I was thinking no way it is something different, I didn't know what it was though, I just knew it wasn't a broken tooth or two. Now I know why.

I've heard a lot of rearends teeth get damaged/broke and they will still get you home (back to the trailer) they just don't sound too good, but Mouser's wasn't even going to let you move him.

That place eats up rearends and ujoints, a LOT of traction there!

Thats wild!

 I've never seen that! I was barely on the throttle - certainly under 3000rpms when it blew

Got me thinking though... Wonder if it was cracked or somehow weakened already? You didn't happen to get that diff from Jimny, did you?

I would say too much traction for a welded diff. With those big wide (15.5"?) tires aired down, there was no way Mouser was gonna slip a tire going over those rocks, even when turning. I bet there was a lot of stress in there before we got to that crack!

Any pics of where it happened, or was it really not bad of a spot?

If you look at the pictures I posted in the pics thread (Jimnycrack1-3; there's also some of Bill coming down it), that's the spot. It's steeper than it looks, but short (maybe 10' high). It actually blew up before I got to the steepest part; I had barely started up!

I wish, that would have me home in 4-6 months. This one is 15 months.

I am somewhat close to everything. We had alot of visitors in the last two weeks. US citizens leaving a certain place with the aid of the US Government. I am sure you heard talk of it on the news, although I dont know if they mentioned them stopping here while waiting for planes.

Oh yes, it's ALL over the news. It's getting pretty wild over there, almost none stop bombing.

Yes we do Smuz, maybe once we both retire. That is about 14 months for me.

Danelle and the kids (and dogs) are in Kansas right now, down in Wichita.

Hell, tell her to stop by on her way home. Alice and I would love to see her and the kids again. (the dogs are a different story, hehehehe).
