Transfer Case

Post by mnate »

I thought I just needed to reseal my transfer case, but when I tore it down I found a big pile of metal in the bottom. Good thing I haven't driven it more than 2 blocks since I got it. The counter shaft bearings are completely gone and the inside of the shaft is pretty badly damaged in addition to several chipped teeth. Does anyone know where I can get either the counter gear or another complete transfer case?
Has anyone run without the transfer case? I know it provides some gear reduction even in high range 2wd, so I'm thinking that's probably not an option. I really wanted to keep the original drive train in it but if I can't get parts....any suggestions??

The transfer case has a 1.7:1 reduction in high range (and 3:1 in low range) so you definitely want to keep it in there!

I responded to your message; I might still have a full transfer case, or I can rebuild yours if it is easiest.
