I'm not very smart, but I am improving

My daily driver is a 2012 Toyota Tacoma. It's a great truck. Had it for 6 years, with absolutely no issues whatsoever. Recently, the TPMS light came on, so I decided to check my tire pressures. The fronts were a bit low, but I couldn't get the metal caps off of the valve stems to check the two rear tires. No worries, they are a hex head, so I'll just grab a small adjustable..... and proceed twist the metal valve stem right off, apparently. The 2nd one wasn't any better. I put penetrating fluid, and some heat, but it broke off as well. Still pondering how I will correct this situation (likely with 2 new TPMS sensors), but I have a new found appreciation for dissimilar metals....

Anyway, after that fiasco, I figured there was still enough time left in the day to mess up my LJ80. It's been starting hard when warm, and smells a bit "fuely" when driving. I wanted to check my points gap, which turned out to be about half of what it should be. Ahhh, yes. That feeling of making something run better, just by using your brain and some hand tools. Feels good, doesn't it? Well, I wouldn't know, because when I put it back together, it wouldn't start. Not a kick, a sputter, nothing. I pretty much killed the battery trying to get it to start.

Bewildered, I hopped out, and started looking around, under the hood. Then I found the problem. The rotor button was laying on the inner fender. Pretty sure it is supposed to be inside the distributor....

At the end of it all, my LJ still starts hard when warm, if left to sit for 5-10 minutes. Could be the coil, could be the carb, could be a bunch of things. But I do know 100% for certain, that it will not start when the rotor button is sitting on the fender, and that makes me a tiny bit smarter that the day before....

I wonder what tomorrow will bring????
