Re: Zuks of KC - Moab, 2013

Just came off the Fins & Things trail, beautiful weather, low 80s temps. No dust on the trail. A couple of the steep spots scared the heck out of Nancy, but other then that, no problems for anyone.

Hwy 191 is closed due to flooding between Monticello and Moab. Spending the night in Monticello. Got one of the last rooms in town. Hopefully the road will be open in the morning!

Yeah, I see that there is rain in the forecast for Tuesday, hope it's not a wash (ha ha).
It's pouring right now in Monticello (50 miles south of Moab).

We're all packed and the Lj's loaded on the trailer. We're leaving straight from work friday evening, and hope to be pulling into Moab saturday afternoon or early evening.

Re: Zuks of KC - Moab, 2013

Hey Tom, how about we plan on doing "fins and things" on Monday. That's a nice, easy trail to get us started and don't take all day. Then we kin get together Mon nite and plan further. Huh? Hadn't really thought about Fins and Things, since we did that trail during the LJ meet. You have t...

Re: Zuks of KC - Moab, 2013

Looking through the postings here, both lj20Colorado and nickademusss were thinking about going too. Lj20Colorado is just up the road in Grand Junction, but I haven't seen a confirmation either way for him. Nickademusss is from the Salt Lake area, not far away either, but according to his profile, h...

Really sorry to see that the Myers can't make it, Nancy and I were looking forward to seeing them again :-( On a entirely different note, does everyone have their copy of "Moab, UT Backroads & 4-wheel Drive Trails" at the ready? Since we'll be bringing the Lj, our trail leading options...

Re: Replacement body-frame mount cushions

Has anyone gone through this before and found a good match, or a good DIY hack? Our local Tractor Supply Co. store carries rubber matting in various thicknesses, and I was able to cut my own from them. They don't have the cloth reinforcement, but they are designed to put on the floors of stock trai...

I used to clean bearings and shoot them with compressed air and never thought it was dangerous. My friend was cleaning a SJ413 front wheel bearing for me and used the air and the bearing failed when it was spinning. Blew apart in his hands and he was lucky he didn't get hurt. When I was a kid worki...

Well, I think you can get the three-screw lenses from Steve C, but you can't get the actual light holder/housings anymore. That was the major reason with going with the solution I did. I did a different fix for the front turn signal/park lamps. I used the available stock lenses, but replaced the bul...

100*??? But it's only April! We just hit 70* for the first time this year over the weekend! Maybe there is something to global warming, the forecast has us down for 102° (F) for this Wednesday. The emissions sticker is for "U.S. EPA" regulations, that would explain the vapor canister. I didn't know '81 Lj80s were US emissions legal?

That's a carb off an Brazilian made VW bug. My LJ10/20 (LJ20 engine) had a similar Solex carb on it when I bought it. Almost a bolt on. I swapped it out for an original Hitachi carb.

'bout 1700 miles to get to that point and that was, by far, the most desolate highway I've ever been on. I think it was Steve that talks about an ordeal... I mean, it is what it is, but that was a LONG, hard drive. Well, I'd have to agree that that is a desolate section of highway. But then ...
