Re: Lj80 motor in a Lj20?

You would definitely need the LJ80 transmission, as they are quite a bit bigger. Other than that it should be doable.

It won't give you a higher top speed though, unless you swap the axles too. LJ80 axles are 4.56, whereas your LJ20 has 5.67 diffs.

Re: Samurai distributor on LJ 80/81 motor

The link you posted looks like the correct one. Should be for an early carb'ed Samurai, 1986-88.

Welcome to the forums!

That "sticky fish oil" is probably a rust preventative, and is why it is still rust free.

Good luck with the "hoard"!

Re: Whipsaw, Canada 2017

Great job with the video Glen - I found the full 12 minute version. Looking at that smoke, I really should have replaced both plugs instead of just #2; I think that is why it was missing on some of those steeper climbs. I replaced it last night and it looked almost as bad as the one I replaced at A&...

Re: Whipsaw, Canada 2017

Technically speaking I do have a single rear seat in the LJ10, but I wouldn't suggest anyone sit back there. Glad you can still make it, and yes we'll definitely have (front) seats for you both! I'm packed up and ready to go. Will probably leave the office about 2:00 if not sooner, and hopefully be ...

Re: Whipsaw, Canada 2017

If nothing else, you can ride with me. My LJ10 is only about 1300#, and with my 215# all on one side it tends to lean a bit!

Re: Whipsaw, Canada 2017

This has been a bit tough getting ready for. I rebuilt my F10a but it was smoking like crazy after and passing quite a bit of raw oil into the exhaust. Figured I put my second ring in upside down so I pulled the engine back out today and double checked the rings. Everything seems good and specs out...

Re: Whipsaw, Canada 2017

I'm leaning towards bringing Rocky, the grey RHD LJ10. The LJ10's are a lot lighter than the LJ81 or my LWB Samurai, so easier to trailer behind the motorhome. Cheez Whiz is at the back of the garage waiting for me to rebuild the carb, but that has been a low priority. Plus Rocky has the full top (i...

Re: Whipsaw, Canada 2017

I emailed and reserved a site at River's Edge this morning. Also checked the 14 day forecast and the weather looks about perfect!

I'll leave work a bit early to avoid the afternoon commute traffic; hope to be up there by around 7pm. See you all there!

Re: Moab - April 2017

Tentative plan right now is April 23-27. It'll take me a couple of days to get there, and also to get home, so I'll travel on the weekends and wheel during the week.

We had a lot of interest in this from my club, but few could meet the April deadline, so we are postponing this to next year (April 2018).

Re: Moab - April 2017

I've heard it is really busy during EJS, so I wanted to avoid that, but go as early as possible before it gets too hot there. We did the LJ meet there in 2009 and the LJ10/20's did really well. Shorter wheelbase, but also narrow (so more lines to choose from) and the lack of overhangs front and rear...

Moab - April 2017

Planning a trip out to Moab with some guys in my local club the last week of April. I'm bringing my LWB Samurai instead of an LJ, as my friends will want to do the harder trails, but thought I'd post it up here in case anyone else wants to join us. Still working on specifics but we will probably be ...

Re: Whipsaw, Canada 2017

Let's keep it for those dates, and have a back up plan (trails) if needed. That way people who need to get time off can make plans. neither the location or the date are that important to a retiree, just let me know in time to get there. As long as the trails are not pure ROCK CRAWLER trails I am up ...

Re: Whipsaw, Canada 2017

We rarely get hookups, as we have enough water and battery power for a long weekend. It also has a propane-powered generator, though we haven't used it much (except to run the A/C one hot evening in Liberty last month!)

Re: Whipsaw, Canada 2017

I have taken to camping in the town of Princeton on a Friday night and then running the entire trail on the Saturday and returning to the campsite in town for the night. Nice to have a warm shower and no bugs for the evening that way. What type of camping facilities? We bought a motorhome this spri...

Re: Whipsaw, Canada 2017

Funny, we were just talking about this at our local club meeting recently. I'm definitely interested. Might even tow the trailer behind the LJ81... Mind if I invite some of my local club guys again? I'd recommend keeping the date tentative until you know what this winter's snowpack looks like. Down ...

Re: Spring Awakening

Thankfully my LJ's get to sleep in the garage, and I have battery tenders to keep the batteries good (I've found a $20 battery tender will at least double the lifespan of those little lawn mower batteries!) I still need to rebuild a carb for Cheez Whiz, but Rocky the RHD is ready to go (except she n...
