Re: Replacement for plastic mirror trim
Just to say that I disassembled, powder coated, and then reassembled these just fine by following your advice. To take them off I put the whole thing in hot water, which softened the plastic. To reassemble them I put the plastic trim under a hair dryer until it softened up enough. Thanks for the tips.

Clever man: 30s in 180F water softened it to the point where it easily came off without any damage.russmehl wrote:Have you tried softening the trim with heat? Like dump the whole thing in some very hot water?
Thanks Russ!

I haven't, but that's a good idea!
And I didn't realise they were still for sale. That's good to know for if I mess mine up.

Replacement for plastic mirror trim
Has anyone ever found a replacement for the plastic trim that goes around the side mirrors? trim.jpg I want to take my mirrors apart to have them powder coated, but the trim isn't very flexible, and will be ruined on removal. I don't want to proceed unless I can find a way to replace it. I've spent ...

Re: LED replacement taillights
Just sharing some findings in the search for other sealed LED units we can drop in... Our tail light holes are ~95mm in diameter, and ~21mm deep. The Land Rover Defender also uses 95mm rear lights, and there are two sealed units that seem popular: • Truck-Lite 837 (formerly known as Rubbolite in Eur...

Any chance you could show us the scans in a larger size? I'd love to see your car close up.

Re: LED replacement taillights
FWIW, while there seem to be very, very few 3.75" LED tail lights out there, there a quite a lot of 95mm ones to be had – those are obviously the same dimensions, but searching for "95mm" gets you a whole different set of results. I guess that size light is more popular on UK and Euro...

Re: Replace Lj10/20 drum brakes with disc brakes – a summary
Thanks guys. I guess I was just interested in seeming a brief summary of how to fit rear disc brakes. I don't plan on doing it, I was just interested to fill the knowledge gap. But not to worry.

Re: Replace Lj10/20 drum brakes with disc brakes – a summary
Since we seem to have settled on the options for front disc brakes, can anyone summarize the options for rear disc brakes? I see plenty of people have disc brakes all round, but I can't find a single detail of how they done it. Can anyone help?

Excellent ideas, thank you both.
I'll measure up all the pads that I took off my LJ10 and post the specs here, in case anyone else needs to do this at a later date.

Re: Replacement body-frame mount cushions
Oh, well that's typical, as soon as I posted I found some along the right lines. I guess they're called "body mounting pads". A few I found so far: http://www.kaiserwillys.com/product/1477/willys-jeep-body-mount-kits-parts-accessories" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false...

Replacement body-frame mount cushions
I've spent a good while searching for replacements for the rubber-fiber pads that sit between the frame and body ("body mounts", "frame cushions", "body bushings"), but to no avail. IMG_0199.JPG (2 documents, 8 total pages).jpg Does anyone have a source for those? Steve...

Well that's a helpful clarification, thank you Steve. It's good to know that it won't change the feel at all. If I did want to put in another stick – basically replace everything on this page http://1976design.com/lj10/parts/17/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; – where would ...

I was wondering if the type of shifter found in the LJ (especially the LJ10) has a particular name? http://1976design.com/lj10/parts/17/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I know it's a manual 4-speed, but all the manual 4-speed shifters I see out there look incompatible. Even ...

Thread size of the original gear stick/knob
Does anyone know what thread size the original gear sticks use? I'd like to buy a new knob with the shift pattern on it, but I'm not sure which thread size to get. When I measure the width of the threaded part of the shifter it's 0.3", which doesn't bear any resemblance to some of the knob size...

Replace Lj10/20 drum brakes with disc brakes – a summary
I've spent the day reading 9 year's worth of threads on fitting disc brakes to LJ10s and LJ20s. Since so many of the threads are old, it occurred to me that it might be helpful to have an up-to-date thread that summarizes the known options. As I understand it, they are: 1. Cut down your existing LJ ...
