Re: LJ 80 Samurai distributor swap
I did mine after breaking down in a snow storm, the old system didn't like humidity. I only changed the dist and left the original coil.

Re: My New Found Love
I got my LJ after the owner died (I sat on a tarp under a tree for over 10 years...the tarp on the ground saved it) but it was sold as a scrap clean up. I called the guy that bought it and told him I'd give him double scrap price if I could send the tow truck. I was worried they would crush it. This...

before this mod my LJ80 barely worked if you had to pee...it hated humidity. After the dist swap you could drive through some pretty deep water with no issues.

I had a retainer removed once with torches but I doubt that retainer would enjoy it a second time.

Re: Axle Bearing / Oil filter numbers
not sure if it's the same at the SJ413 but when I went to the local parts store the number for the SJ410 was discontinued but they had 6 as old stock. I bought them all at $3 a piece.

so we had our annual event this weekend. 13 rigs in all (mix). like normal I had to smallest tires and smallest motor. I got a few pics. It was funny to watch three rigs on 33"+ locked front and back struggle with a small spot for over 25 minutes each and then I just drive through it. Size help...

Re: Replace Lj10/20 drum brakes with disc brakes – a summary
I did the SJ413 front disc brake swap and the SJ413 rear drum swap onto my LJ80 and it worked good. Hardest part was splitting the birfs. I ended up buying four SJ410 fronts for the birfs and got lucky that the first two popped right off. LJ80 birfs gave me a hard time. I could have cut them off but...

I run antique plates on the LJ at around $20 per year but here the cops can get on your case because they are only to be used to shows and "sunday" drives.

that is awesome and those pics are a perfect way to show how it's done.
I did that swap to mine and it would actually run after this.

Door knockers
So I had to move and had to put the LJ in storage. From the road you can see just the back of it and it's at my parents house. People knock on the door at least once a week so see it and if it's for sale.
Do you guys have people that knock on your door?

Re: Alternative shifters
When I first started to drive my LJ I found myself in 1st rather than 3rd and it showed itself really fast. Once you get used to the way it feels then it's alot of fun. You can't just slam the shifter into the next gear. Looked for a spare tranny for a while before realizing that reverse wasn't brok...

Re: Parts cleaning
I used a small parts washer with cleaner for the bearings and other parts. When it comes to the seals I'd go over them with a rag and some brake cleaner. I tried to change all the seals but sometimes it was a rush so if it looked good it went back in. Years back when I worked in welding the shop I w...

A few years back we got a suzuki dealership in town (only open for about 6 months) and the owner came out to see the LJ. Had only heard about them and never even seen a pic. Never got anywhere at all for parts and I call the zuke dealer that is 6 hours away and ship.

weld the back and leave the front open. I'd locker the back and leave the front open because the locker will give a little. LJ's are light but pavement loves to break axles.

Re: How to Clean your LJ-10/20 Fuel tank and recoat it
you were lucky you had enough tank left.....both my LJ and my 413K had nothing left and I ran gas jugs in both. Used a stock 413 tank for the 413K but had to get a custom tank for the LJ80. didn't make the vent big enough so it's hard to fill.

Re: Front axle rebuild. How to straighten housing
you need some heat...get some torches and heat the side that is outside of the bend...I mean alot of heat. We did a set of toys after the guy added alot of bracing and it took alot of work to get it straight. you heat a pretty big area to a very hot point and you let it cool....the cooling action wi...

looks like tons of fun and we've got the same problem down here with people making the trails very wide. This spring over 50 trucks show up on a back coutry farmers field and tear up the whole field...ruts over 12" deep in places. They started giving out fines for anyone one logging roads and i...

Re: lj80 vs. sj410 differentials.
like the post above said that the ratios are different and you'll have to swap both front and back. For the brakes if you are going to swap just go right to 413 part and then you'll have the disc brakes and lock out hubs. You'll need the 410 birfs and all the parts from the 413. It all bolts right o...
